“Spending also rose 9% in the first quarter compared with the fourth quarter of 2015—a surprise to Chris Costello, Kenshoo’s senior director of marketing research, who said spending typically declines in the first quarter. Mr. Costello noted the growing popularity of dynamic product ads, a type of ad launched in February 2015. Other analysts point to Instagram, which Credit Suisse predicts generated $572.5 million in first-quarter revenue.”
